This podcast is great when they’re not doing interviews. Interviews are just PR. If I want to hear from a designer that his game is great and everything is lovely and oh it was just so great working with everybody, I can just go seek their website out. It doesn’t make for an interesting podcast episode.
This is very worthwhile RPG podcast for your library. It’s a mix of interviews and thought-pieces about aspects of the RPG scene, covering games from the 80’s through to the modern day. It’s less about the humour, banter and nostalgia and more about the craft of RPG’s - being a GM, writing a scenario, talking to RPG luminaries. The two hosts have quite different core RPG tastes (with some overlap) which does make for an informative dialogue and interesting perspectives. Definitely worth a listen... more
I really like the discussions the Smart Party has about the hobby and the games. It’s really thoughtful and interesting. They get some pretty interesting creators in the industry too.
Baz and Gaz bring sharp gaming content to your PODBOX to a consistently high standard. A great conversational style that ruminates on topics du jour with expertise and a natural curiosity for new ideas, generosity towards its excellent guests and a respect for the traditional. It hits my ears as soon as it’s released to get my fix. Keep ‘em comin’ at the posse chaps!
Baz and Gaz have obviously enjoyed playing ttrpgs for years together but it isn’t an exercise in nostalgia. Smart and opinionated takes on games old and new but also a willingness to look at games from multiple angles (rules for rpgs from a trade negotiator) and expanding the world with interviews with the great and good of the gaming world. Essential listening.
