Dog-cognition expert and bestselling author Alexandra Horowitz (Inside of a Dog) takes us on a walk into the scruffy, curious, joyful world of dogs. What does it mean to "own" a dog? Can dogs demonstrate genuine heroism? And what is it like to experience reality primarily through smell? Off Leash is a delightful and surprising look at the deeply familiar, profoundly mysterious animals who walk alongside us.

I learned nothing about dogs’ sense of smell. And there’s so much they’re doing with that now! I learned more from a recent no... more
Started our walk listening to your great podcast on hero dogs ended on our walk calling 911 to help an old lady in distress at 2 am 🎉
I loved the first episode of Off Leash, Smell. So much to learn about our canine friends in such a warm and inviting podcast. And also brings new awareness to our own senses. Can’t wait to listen to the next episodes.
Love this podcast! So interesting to learn all this cool research and information about dogs :).
why do some people still dock tails? partly to maintain a traditional look and partly to avoid "happy tail" injuries. docking a 3 day old puppy whose nervous system isn't fully developed and whose tail is very small in diameter is a lot less traumatic than amputating the large diameter fully enervated tail of an adult that has had its tail broken or lacerated and is fli ging blood with every wag.
